Nation Undead Body Parts: Montour’s Story By Travis Olson

Ext. Outskirts of City: Road- Day

Abandoned Road with a dilapidated city in the distance. Scott is walking along the road; he has a backpack slung over his shoulder and a walking stick. He pauses as he looks at the city in the distance.

Ext. Outskirts of City: Building Parking Lot- Day

Kayla is runs out of building; she runs to the parking lot and looks about the abandoned world around her. A look of hopelessness crosses her face as she realizes she is all alone. A Zombie exits the building she had escaped from; Kayla looks back and sees Zombie rushing at her, she is fueled by survival and begins running away.

Ext. Outskirts of City: Road- Day

Scott sighs at the distance to the city and decides to take a break; he slings his backpack in front of him and reaches into it, he pulls out a bottle of water and a Toxicil bottle. He shakes the bottle and a lone pill is heard shaking inside; discouraged he places the bottle back in the pack; he focuses on the water and takes a drink.

Ext. Outskirts of City: Street with Cars- Day

Kayla runs down street with a series of abandoned cars; as she passes them she tries to open the doors for an unlocked one as the Zombie pursues her. This tactic begins to make her head start dwindle and the Zombie is gaining. Kayla has one final car to check and the Zombie is nearly upon her.

Kayla: Please!

Kayla tries the back passenger door and it opens; she leaps inside of it and pulls the door shut just as the Zombie crashes against the closed window.

Int. Outskirts of City: Car- Day

Zombie spits blood and saliva at the window Kayla looks out of as she reaches for the door lock quickly and presses it. The Zombie begins wrapping against the window with it’s hands violently and Kayla gets scared. The Zombie begins bashing it’s head against the window to get to Kayla.

Kayla: GET AWAY!

Kayla faces the window of the door she came in but behind her at the other back door; the window is open a quarter allowing her voice to escape the car.

Kayla: GO AWAY!

Ext. Outskirts of City: Road- Day

Scott stands like a statue; listening intently. The faintest sound of Kayla screaming is heard. Scott drops his back pack and clutches his walking stick as he spins around on the spot listening for direction. A faint scream is heard again; Scott’s eyes form determination. A close up of Scott’s Pant Leg- the camera passes through his jeans and skin into his muscle; the muscle tightens- Zoom out of Scott’s Leg to him running away from the camera toward the screaming.

Int. Outskirts of City: Car- Day

Kayla screams maniacally as the Zombie is repeatedly spitting up blood and smearing it with every bash of it’s hand and head against the glass. Kayla is being terrorized beyond all that she can take and her eyes close and her face contorts to one final pleading.

Kayla: LEAVE ME ALONE!

The Zombie stops it’s attack; Kayla opens her eyes and sees the Zombie facing away from the car, she is confused as she watches it stand as a statue through the blood and saliva smeared window. A long stick like object is jammed through the Zombie’s face as Kayla jumps startled from the sudden action. The Zombie falls backward. Kayla sees Scott’s form walk up and pull the stick from the ground; Scott looks into the window, he gives a friendly wave. Kayla, in shock, gives an unenthusiastic wave back.

Ext. Outskirts of City: Car- Day

Scott stands away from the car; the Zombie is finally a corpse on the ground; Kayla opens the car door and steps cautiously over the Zombie. She stares at the Zombie very carefully until she gets a few steps away and looks at Scott, she still is still feeling the effects of the sudden trauma. Scott understands this and smiles to her.

Scott: …Want a friend?

-Fade to Black-

Ext. Abandoned City: Alleyway- Night

Charles runs down alleyway frantically; he is being chased by two Zombies. His breathing is heavy and he is on his last legs; a third Zombie appears in front of him which causes him to try and stop suddenly, this propels him to fall over an overturned trashcan. He quickly backs himself away from the new Zombie and this puts his back to the wall of a garage; trapping him from escaping the three Zombies approaching. The Zombies seem to move in slow motion as they surround him; Charles looks at the mangled beings before him as he catches his breath. He begins to understand that there is no escape and he no longer feels fear as he nods to the Zombies his acceptance.

Charles: …okay…

A gunshot is heard; Charles looks up suddenly and the new Zombie falls from a head shot. Charles looks to the other two still advancing unaffected by the fallen Zombie; they are side by side and Scott charges and tackles both to the ground. Scott rolls off the Zombies in a hurry to avoid further contact as Kayla rushes forward and begins firing wildly at the Zombies heads until they are put down. Charles, having been ready to die, stares in awe as Scott and Kayla high five each other and give each other a hip bump in celebration. Scott and Kayla look to Charles.

Scott: You okay?

Charles stares blankly; Kayla walks forward to Charles and leans down to his face.

Kayla: …You okay, mister?

Charles snaps to and nods “yes”.

Kayla: Want a friend?

Kayla looks back to Scott with a smile of the inside joke she’s told; she turns back to Charles and extends her hand to help him to his feet. Scott stands behind; close up of Scott’s Chest- camera passes through the shirt and skin to Scott’s heart; it begins to thump harder- camera zooms out of Scott’s Chest as Kayla has a reassuring hand on Charles’ shoulder as she leads him away, she looks to Scott and gives him a wink. Scott smiles and begins to follow behind.

-Fade to Black-

Int. Abandoned City: Building- Day

Charles steps back; he is sweating and has a look of desperation, he charges forward and slams his shoulder into a door. Charles bounces off the door and falls to the floor at Kayla’s feet; Kayla helps him to his feet and reveals the two new survivor’s in the group, Rita and Jesse; they are in a wide hallway trying to break through a door.

Charles: …I can’t get it…

Kayla: It’s okay, Charles…

Charles looks pitifully at Kayla as he walks to the wall and sits down against it. Kayla begins walking away from the door down the hallway to a corner and turns. Scott is standing in the middle of the hallway with the two other new survivors, Cory and Craig; they are dressed as police officers and carry guns. They are facing away from Kayla watching down the dark corridor leading to their current hiding spot.

Kayla: Scott?

Scott looks back at Kayla.

Kayla: …We can’t get the door open.

Craig: SHIT!

Scott looks back and sees the movement of several Zombies rushing toward them. Craig steps forward lifting his gun as Cory steps up to Scott.

Cory: Get that door open or we all die here!

Cory steps up to Craig with his gun poised for the advancing horde. Scott turns to follow Kayla to the door.

Craig: Scott…

Scott looks back.

Craig: …We don’t have enough bullets for this…

Scott nods and follows Kayla around the corner. Scott walks up to the door; Kayla, Charles, Rita and Jesse all stare at him as he tries a brief push on the door. Several gunshots are fired from behind him as he tries a hearty push to no avail; gunshots continue behind him. Scott realizes he cannot open this door; Kayla steps up to him and sees his face as gunfire continues sporadically in the background.

Kayla: What is it?

Scott: …I can’t open it.

Scott sees the hope fade from Kayla’s eyes as he turns from the door; he looks to Charles who stares at the ground blaming himself for not being able to help the others; Scott looks to Rita and Jesse who understand when they see his eyes that this is where they will die, they hold onto each other in a compassionate embrace. Cory and Craig run around the corner and see Scott; they are disheartened when they see Scott not facing the door, they look to each other and check their gun clips for pointless Hope. Scott looks again to Kayla; she smiles to him but fear lives in her eyes. Cory and Craig run passed Scott and begin to try with all their might to bash the door open. Scott steps away from Kayla in front of everyone; the sound of an approaching herd fills the gaps of Cory and Craig trying to bash the door open; Scott looks back at Kayla as she begins to question his motive for stepping in front of the group. Close up of Scott’s Crotch- camera passes through the jeans and skin to his testicles; the testicles grow- Zoom out from Scott’s Crotch, facing him, down the hall to the corner as the first Zombie comes across it and Scott charges at the Zombie. Scott picks it up and throws it into the next three rounding the corner; Scott then charges around the corner and disappears. Kayla is horrorstruck and begins stepping forward after Scott but Charles steps forward and stops her; Rita and Jesse stay in their embrace; Cory and Craig walk up and stop next to Kayla and Charles. The Four watch the dark corner; the sounds of the skirmish is excruciating and long; then it all goes silent. A limping Zombie rounds the corner and sees the survivors; the survivors look mortified that Scott has fallen; they don’t react as the limping Zombie advances very slowly toward them. Scott comes around the corner; covered in blood and with a severed hand attached at his ankle; he grabs the limping Zombie by the back of the neck and lifts it to the air and smashes it’s Skull against the wall, the Zombie stays stuck to the wall for a few seconds before it falls. Kayla smiles brightly at Scott; Scott lifts his hand and points down the dark corridor he had just dispatched the uprising down.

Scott: …I found another way out…

-Fade to Black-

Int. Outskirts of City: Van- Day

The Seven survivors are packed in a van driving on road away from the city; the remaining space in the van is filled with supplies. Craig is driving; Scott has a window seat with Kayla next to him asleep with her head on his shoulder. The other survivors are awake but have the look weariness weighing upon them. Scott looks out window; his eyes get reactive. Close up on Scott’s Eyes- Camera passes through eyes to brain; electrical activity storms over his brain- Zoom out of Scott’s Eyes to Scott leaning forward and tapping Craig on the shoulder and pointing out the window.

Ext. Outskirts of City: Road- Day

Van drives on road; they pass a sign that advertises “Rorroh State Forest: 300 miles”; on the sign is a Ranger looking out over the Forest from a Fire Look Out Tower.

-Fade to Black-

Ext. Rorroh State Forest: Parking Lot- Day

The Survivors are walking away from the van and heading into the forest; they are packed full of supplies.

Ext. Rorroh State Forest: Forest- Night

The survivors have made a camp and have a fire going; Charles, Jesse, and Rita are in sleeping bags asleep. Cory and Craig are seated along the outskirts of the camp taking watch; Scott and Kayla are seated on the opposite side also taking watch.

Ext. Rorroh State Forest: Forest- Day

Rita, Jesse, and Charles are finishing packing up the campsite; Cory and Craig are yawning but drinking coffee seated next to the remaining embers of the fire. Scott is asleep against a tree with a blanket over him; Kayla walks up to him, she is holding a cup of coffee. She nudges him and he wakes up; she hands him the coffee and smiles. Scott takes a sip and watches as the others are ready to move out. Charles, Rita and Jesse are all packed and look to Cory and Craig, who roll their eyes but get up and begins following. Scott gets up and Kayla grabs the blanket and begins rolling it up and packing it. Scott watches Kayla as she turns and smiles to him; he offers her the coffee cup but she shakes her head no. Scott takes another sip and looks around the forest; Kayla looks at Scott. Close up on Kayla’s Arm- Camera passes through shirt and skin to her muscle; the muscle tightens- Zoom out from Kayla’s Arm to Kayla grabbing Scott and pulling him close for a passionate kiss.

-Fade to Black-

Ext. Rorroh State Forest: Ranger Station and Fire Look Out Tower- Day

The Survivors stand side by side, their supplies discarded behind them, staring up at the Tower; then one by one they look to each other wondering if this is a good place to hide. They begin to move and gather their supplies; Scott walks toward the door of the Ranger Station carrying a box of food. The door opens just as Scott gets to it and the door opens into the box and box pushes against Scott’s chest hard. Close Up Scott’s Chest- Camera passes through shirt and skin to a Cyst on Scott’s Lung; the Cyst opens up pouring liquid into his Lungs- Zoom out from Scott’s Chest to the Ranger holding the door open and looking at him.

-Fade to Black-

Ext. Rorroh State Forest: Ranger Station- Night

Kayla sits on lawn chair behind ranger station with a rifle in her hand; she looks sad and tired. A dirt mound about three feet in front of her begins to rise slowly; she raises the rifle and aims at the mound. Scott’s head pokes through the dirt.

Close Up of Kayla’s Finger- Camera Zooms through the skin to the muscle; the muscle tightens- A gunshot is heard.
